BANGALORE: For the weary traveller emerging out of the Bangalore City Railway Station who most often falls prey to touts, there is good news.

In an effort to provide affordable accommodation for budget travellers, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd. (IRCTC) has proposed a budget hotel close to the City Railway Station.

The budget hotel promises to offer travellers a comfortable stay in an airconditioned room for about Rs. 1,000, and will have all facilities, including a 24-hour coffee shop, multi-cuisine restaurant, conference room and others that are offered to travellers in quality hotels. The hotel is expected to have between 60 and 70 well-furnished rooms.

Land identified

Sources in IRCTC told The Hindu that the land near Krishna Mills, close to the railway station, had been identified to be developed into the hotel, and that the engineering division in the railways was looking into the proposal. Apart from this property, three other sites have also been identified.

The engineering section is considering the viability plans keeping in consideration of future expansion plans of the railways. The sources said the IRCTC was hopeful of getting nod from the engineering section in less than a month, and that the whole project would be commissioned in six to eight months.
