BANGALORE: The prime commercial locations of the City do not have an adequate drainage facility.

There are no precautionary measures taken by the residents either, to prevent the clogging of drains and ensure that the storm water outlets are not converted into sewage lines.

Urban Planner, George K Kuruvilla told this website's newspaper that areas like M G Road, Brigade Road, Commercial Street, Dickinson Road and parts of Cubbon Road and St Marks Road do not have a drainage facility.

Based on the recent study conducted by him on the inadequacy of the drainage lines in the prime locations of the City, he said, based on the reports, the storm water drains are in a depleting condition, due to lack of appropriate water inlets and outlets.

“During the construction of sidewalks these drains were clogged by the BMP and till date no provisions have been made to ensure adequate flow of sewage. This is major cause of puddles. They are further clogged due to inappropriate disposal of plastic, domestic waste and sanitary disposable. These drains further, do not have any storm water outlets as well,” said George.

He added that due to heavy downpour during monsoons, there are puddles causing discrepancies in commuting. There is wastage of water which can be accumulated and utilised.

“If needed, I will submit my study reporters to the BMP as suggestions for improvement”.

Recently a storm water outlet has been constructed near Cubbon Road, opposite to Chinnaswamy Stadium, but it is not yet connected to the main sewage line.

Infection spreads due to water erosion and disilting of drains. Potholes are created due to heavy flow of water.

Water flooding in low lying areas causes tremendous damage to property.
