BANGALORE: The State Government has exempted the pillion passengers from wearing helmets and the rule came into effect from November 4.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Home Minister M.P. Prakash said the pillion riders had been exempted from wearing helmets. The Government on October 27, 2006, issued a notification calling for objections from the public for exempting the wearing of helmets by pillion passengers of two wheelers. Not a single objection was filed, he said.

The rule making helmets mandatory by two-wheeler riders came into effect from November 1. The rule would be in force in the limits of Bangalore city and five other city corporation areas in the State.
