Yet another project will move out

Bangalores loss is Hyderabads gain, yet again! First, Fab City, next the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Now, yet another project will move out of the City to Hyderabad, thanks to the State governments dilly-dallying.

The country’s first ‘air taxi service’ project entailed helicopter air taxi services for business, IT, health and the cargo sector by setting up roof-top helipads and mini airports at seven locations across the City. It was expected to provide the Citys highflyers relief from bustling traffic.

The project will now move to Hyderabad after an assurance by the Andhra Pradesh government and the GMR Group, promoters of the Hyderabad International Airport, to provide necessary infrastructure for the project.

Speaking to VViijja ayy T Tiimmeess , G James, proprietor, G7 Helicopter Air Taxi Services, who planned the project, said the State government did not show any interest despite a presentation to Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Home Minister M P Prakash a couple of months ago.

“We identified seven locations - Electronic City, ITPL, Devanahalli Airport, HAL Airport, Old Central Jail and Peenya and Bidadi Industrial areas - for the projects. It is for the government to provide land and infrastructure, but no assurance came from their side," he said.

Meanwhile, the AP government and the GMR Group identified two places in Hyderabad, one in the city centre and the other at the upcoming international airport, for the helipads.

“No city in India has traffic problems like Bangalore, yet the government showed little interest. On the other hand, the AP government want Hyderabad to be the first Indian city to offer such a service,” James added.
