‘Use Me’ dust bins spilling over, bits of paper and plastic strewn all over. This was the scene at Vidhana Soudha on Monday morning, leaving the sweepers a daunted lot.

Thousands of people enjoyed the two-day Janapada Jatre over the weekend, held along the Vidhana Soudha stretch of Ambedkar Veedhi, a programme launched by the State government to rejuvenate folk art forms. The event, however, left the sweepers a good half day’s clean-up work.

Customers of the temporary roadside eateries set up on Ambedkar Veedhi littered the Vidhana Soudha premises, while the parks in front of the Soudha’s main entrance were inundated with plastic covers with food leftovers. Some did use the dust bins too, but the bins were overflowing on Monday morning. It was an unpleasant welcome for many of the officials who walked in after the weekend. Not to mention the thousands of visitors and tourists, for whom the Soudha continues to be a much-admired Bangalore landmark.
