BANGALORE: After deferring its decision for several times, the State Government has finally decided to make helmet compulsory for riders from November 1st.

The helmet rule, however, has been exempted for pillion riders. Home Minister M P Prkash told reporters on Tuesday that helmet will be made compulsory in six city corporation limits including Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Belgaum, Hubli-Dharawad and in Gulbarga.

The rule however has been exempted in Bellary City Corporation limits due to extreme hot climatic conditions, Prakash said.

In the last three months, the government deferred its decision on helmet rule thrice due to strong opposition from public. The government, however, was forced to make this rule compulsory following a direction from the High Court.
