Traffic woes put brakes on Seshadripuram

Traffic woes put brakes on Seshadripuram
The Times of India

Bangalore: The once peaceful residential area, Seshadripuram is now teeming with traffic and its unending woes.
Seshadripuram Main Road is congested with perennial traffic flow, which is often left unattended. The mushrooming of educational institutions in the area has added to the congestion. The student community has seen an increase in the number of two-wheelers. Often accidents are caused by students’
rash riding, complained N S Ramakanth, president of Kumara Park West Residents Welfare Association.
Other traffic violations like parking in No-Parking zones and vendors selling cigarettes in prohibited school areas are also on the rise. Deplorable footpaths with slabs jutting out in the I Main Road, pose great danger and safety hazards. Dumping of construction materials in conservancy lanes adds to the existing situation.
“Unhygienic surroundings on the railway parallel road is a health hazard. The health officials, however, are not bothered and residents watch in stoic silence. In spite of regular follow-ups with both the MLA and the corporator, there has been no improvement. The traffic police is busy handling VIP movement most of the time,” rued T D Srinivasan, a resident.
“Noise pollution is unbearable on Platform Road. Seshadripuram has become one of the worst areas to live in. We need speed breakers on all the main roads,” added another resident Giridharan M.
However DCP East (Traffic) M A Saleem said, “There were traffic problems on Seshadripuram Main Road before as it’s a connecting link to many areas.”
“After the installation of new traffic signals in some areas, the situation has improved. The VIP movement is not very frequent in Seshadripuram and traffic surveillance is good.”
Area corporator M S Vasantha Kumari blamed the system for pending developmental works. “Rs 45 lakh has been sanctioned for constructing footpath on I and II Main Road. The work will be completed within 15 days. The development projects are delayed because corporators are busy attending BMP meetings and the contractors delay work further citing the work orders are not granted on time. Seshadripuram is a big ward and is neglected by BMP. I have been requesting BMP to sanction funds time and again but my pleas have gone unheard.”

“Educational institutions are required in areas accessible to the students. Not every institution can come up on the outskirts.”
“There are a few traffic problems due to the large influx of these institutions in Sheshadripuram but traffic chaos is not limited to a particular area. The entire city is facing its brunt.”
