In a special drive against violation of advertisement by-laws, including failure to remit the advertisement fee, the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike authorities on Tuesday night removed 202 hoardings belonging to the Serve and Volley advertising group.
Both hoardings and illumination blocks put up by the group on Bellary Road and Airport Road and at the median on Hebbal Flyover were removed during the drive, led by BMP Joint Commissioner (Enforcement) N Jayaram.
Violation
BMP had in 2004 issued the contract on maintenance of greenery in traffic islands and upkeep of road medians to the Serve and Volley group.
It was permitted space for 100 hoardings or blocks on Airport Road, 36 on Bellary Road (upto Windsor Manor bridge) and 53 between Mekhri Circle and Hebbal Flyover. The agreement was on BOT basis.
The group was, however, found violating the agreement clauses. The group had also failed to remit Rs 1.94 crore advertisement tax.
On March 23, BMP had cancelled the license to the group.
The group had secured a stay, which was later vacated. As many as 200 workers were involved in the drive on Tuesday night, a press release said.
