The Wheeler Road flyover work, which had slowed down due to delay in acquisition of a portion land from ITC, can now progress without any hitch.

The last hurdle has been cleared as Bangalore Mahanagar Palike has obtained the order for transferring 1,770 sq ft from ITC land.

This was revealed by BMP Project Engineer Shivanna during a meeting with Sarvagna Nagar Citizens Forum in Cox Town on Wednesday.

Mr Shivanna said that the works on the acquired land would begin within 20 days and expressed confidence that the Wheeler Road flyover project, which began in June last, would be completed within the stipulated 18 months. The project was taken up following complaints of frequent traffic jam near railway level crossing on the Wheeler Road which connects Cox Town to Banaswadi. As many as 72 trains run everyday. “The flyover is being constructed on a cost sharing basis between BMP and the Railways. BMP wants to hand over their share of costs to the Railways in order to maintain a single book of account of costs incurred in construction of flyover and also to ensure speedy completion of the work,” stated Mr Shivanna.

The President of the Sarvagna Nagar Citizens Forum Mr Thyagaraj lambasted BMP officials for shoddy maintenance of roads and removal of garbage. He also urged BMP to extend the time of collection of domestic garbage up to 1 pm in order to avoid accumulation of garbage dumps on roadside.
