Jayanagar complex needs a lift-up

Jayanagar complex needs a lift-up
The Times of India

Bangalore: Business at Jayanagar complex has slowed down a bit since Monday affecting nearly 1,500 employees, lakhs of customers and over 500 shops. The reason: the non-functional elevators.
The staircase is unsafe as most of the steps are chipped and the banisters are broken. “It is particularly unsafe for children and the elderly who frequent the complex,” said secretary Regional Transport Authority, Bangalore Urban, Syed Shafi Ahmed.
The RTO functions out of the fourth and seventh floor offices and employees find it particularly difficult to shuttle between floors without the elevator. Citizens, who attending a transport adalat at the complex on Tuesday, too faced inconvenience.
Even though, Ahmed complained about the situation to BMP officials, no action has been taken as yet.
While no accidents have been reported so far, one wouldn’t be surprised to hear of injuries caused on the staircase sometime soon. “Even previously, the elevator used to work only for a few hours. But now, they are simply not working and one doesn’t know if there’s any scope for them to start working soon,” he said.
A few months back, corporator N Nagaraj had said that the staircases would be renovated by August and that tenders were issued for new elevators. Evidently, none of them seemed to have taken place.
