BANGALORE: The bandh due to which the theatres were shut down and non-Kannada TV channels were blacked out, provided brisk business to video compact disc (CD) parlours in Bangalore.

The racks in CD joints were almost empty a day before the bandh, as Bangaloreans decided to sit back home and watch their favorite block-busters on small screens.

Sureshkumar, owner of CD shop on Mysore Road said that most of CDs were booked a day in advance and extra copies of CDs were also rented out.

“Even on Wednesday, our telephones continued to ring to check if any CDs were available,” he said. John Mathew from DVD & CD World in Vasanthanagar, said that customers preferred taking more number of CDs.

“Since we will be closed on Wednesday to support the bandh, customers will have to pay a two-day rent to book CDs. But, it never bothered the customers,” he said.

“The early announcement from the cable operators about not screening non-Kannada channels made customers look for CDs in advance,” he added.

The shopkeepers said that the recent block-buster ‘Lage raho Munnabahi’ was most sought after, followed by Omkar, Rang De Basanti and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. New Kannada movies were also in demand, they added.
