Is it still early days on Greater Bangalore? The administrative heads of the incoming local bodies, especially the City Municipal Councils, are said to be feeling a little rushed up on the issue.
“Everybody feels we are rushing”, said a top official of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, after a meeting between senior officers of BMP and commissioners of the seven City Municipal Councils on Tuesday.
Interestingly, responding to reporters’ queries prior to the meeting, the CMC commissioners had muttered a collective “most of us are new in our posts.”
Tuesday’s meeting was reportedly the third meeting between BMP and CMC officials, but, according to sources, much of the information sought from the CMCs are yet to be submitted.
Proforma
Bangalore Mahanagara Palike is learnt to have now issued these CMC authorities a proforma of the details that is expected from them.
It was noted that the information sought, relates to the existing staff strength, density of population, availability of infrastructure, civic utilities and tax collections.
In addition, BMP by itself will shortly conduct a stock-taking exercise in the CMCs.
Order
An order directing various departments - infrastructure, health, engineering etc, to make an assessment of their related areas in the CMCs, is said to have been issued recently.
Whether the assessment will be done one by one team comprising representatives of all the departments or whether each department will undertake the exercise on its own is yet to be decided, BMP sources said.
