PUBLIC TRANSPORT UNCERTAIN, SCHOOLS CLOSED, BANGALOREANS IN HOLIDAY MOOD
The Times of India
Bangalore: Elaborate security arrangements have been made by the police to maintain peace. On Tuesday, chief secretary Malati Das held a meeting to review the arrangements made by the police.
DGP B S Sial said one company of RAF, 800 home guards and 35 platoons have been pressed into service. Persons indulging in violence or those who try to force shops to close will be dealt with an iron-hand.
Bangalore city police commissioner Achutha Rao said two special companies of reserve police will assist the city police to maintain peace. He clarified that no preventive arrests have been made. Besides airport, elaborate security arrangements have been made at railway and bus stations.
The police have classified the following areas as sensitive and hyper-sensitive pockets. The classification has been done based on previous experience. These areas located mainly in north and western parts witnessed violence during Cauvery riots a decade ago and also during Rajkumar’s death in April.
Avoid these areas. This is the unofficial dossier from the police to Bangaloreans.
Sensitive and hyper-sensitive areas: Rajajinagar, Chord Road, Magadi Road, Kempe Gowda Road, Majestic, Yeshwantpur, Sankey Road, Malleswaram, Ulsoor, Airport Road, J C Road, Mavalli, R V Road, Southend Circle, pockets of Jayanagar and J P Nagar, Bannerghatta Road, Adugodi, main roads in Chamarajpet, Vijayanagar, Kamakshipalya, Tumkur Road, Rajagopalanagar, Nandini Layout, Chandra Layout, Mysore Road, Devaiah Park, J C Nagar, Bellary Road, pockets of Hebbal and Yelahanka.
It is better if the vehicles with the registration number of other states stay off the road, a senior police officer suggested.
The police have made elaborate security arrangements with a massive deployment of personnel especially at sensitive areas. The massive assemblage of personnel will include those drawn from paramilitary forces, reserve police and Home Guards besides the entire city police force.
The police commissioner said the police will set up pickets and patrol areas from Tuesday night. Special mobile squads will keep a lookout and attend to any untoward incident. “All senior officers will be on the field and monitor the situation. No chances will be taken,’’ the commissioner said. Rao also said arrangements have been made to ensure that traffic is not affected.
Appealing to Bangaloreans to maintain peace, the commissioner said; “No organisation has so far sought permission to take out rallies. We will ensure safety and take strict action against those attempting to disturb peace.’’
The Government Railway Police (GRP) too have stepped up security and have also sought additional deployment. The GRP has held meetings with the Railway Protection Force and adequate measures have been taken.
AUTORICKSHAWS
Autorickshaws have taken a mixed stance on operating. While the Auto Rickshaw Drivers Union (ARDU) has not taken a decision on whether to ply, the Rajiv Gandhi Auto and Taxi Association has declared a 24-hour halt on services. “We will observe a 12-hour bandh till 6 pm, but will ply post-6 pm,” said Adarsha Auto Driver Union (AADU) secretary C Sampath.
ATTENTION SHOPKEEPERS
The police have advised the shopkeepers whose shops have glass facades (glass exteriors) to cover them with plastic sheets.
SCHOOLS
The education department on Tuesday declared an official holiday for all government schools in Bangalore. The department has, however, left it to the deputy commissioners to decide on closing schools depending on the situation. Private institutions are also free to decide whether they would like to conduct classes or shut shop. On their part, a majority of the schools have declared a holiday. “Even if teachers and students desire to attend classes, transport will be a problem,’’ a principal said.
HEALTH
Normal services in hospitals, both private and public, will not be affected. Services throughout the state, including Bangalore, will be normal, informed medical director Dr M G Prasad. We have not issued any closure order, hence all health centres will be open. “Unless the doctors are stopped from working,’’ he added.
There are a total of 1,687 primary health centres, 8,972 sub-centres, 252 community welfare centres, 30 district hospitals, 176 taluk hospitals and six government hospitals in the state.

The Karnataka State lottery draws of October 4 stands cancelled. An official release states that the Srinidhi weekly draw No 0627 would be held on October 5, at 4.30 pm at the directorate office. IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
