BANGALORE: The residents of Ramaswamy Palya on Tuesday threatened to agitate against the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) if it did not acquire about three acres of Ramaswamy Palya lake bed which, they alleged, had been encroached by influential people in the locality.

The residents said they would file a written complaint with BMP Commissioner K Jairaj about the encroachment and press for the construction of a playground on the entire lakebed area of six acres.

A resident P Giridhar told reporters here on Tuesday that some residents have illegally occupied the land and that a temple boundary had been extended. ‘‘We will request the BMP to clear the encroachment and occupy the entire land to make a play ground,’’ he said.

Another resident B Gopal said that the land had been encroached a long time ago and despite many complaints, no action has been taken by the ward officers. ‘‘The government has also ordered a detailed survey of the area, but BMP has not taken any measures till date,’’ he said.
