BANGALORE: Angry public on Tuesday stoned a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus that knocked down a motorcycle on Hosur Road, killing a young engineer.

Police said the accident occurred around 8.30 a.m. near Koodlu Gate. The victim was identified as Sandeep (25), a mechanical engineer at an industry in Bommasandra Industrial Area. He was a native of Balehonnur taluk in Chikmagalur district and a resident of Rajajinagar here.

While Sandeep was on his way to work, the bus hit his motorcycle and it ran over him as he fell on the road, police said. Angered by Sandeep's death, passers-by, mainly factory workers who were on their way to work, gathered at the accident spot and stoned the bus, damaging its windscreen. They also attempted to set the bus on fire.

On learning about the accident and the unruly incidents that followed, police rushed to the spot and dispersed the irate public. The Madivala traffic police have seized the bus and arrested the driver.
