BANGALORE: The visitors to the Silicon Valley of India would heave a sigh of relief - thanks to the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) pick up service. The visitors would no more be taken for a ride by unscrupulous autorickshaw and taxi operators.

The Corporation is launching a pick-up service from the airport to star hotels. Many a time, a new visitor lands up in a bad hotel due to wrong guidance by these travel operators.

BMTC Managing Director Upendra Tripathy told this paper that the service would have a luxury bus and they would be outsourced from KSRTC ‘Rajahamsa’ fleet, five in number. These buses will run between 4 a.m to 9 a.m and 3 p.m to 8 p.m from September 23.

Tripathy said that BMTC is talking to airport authorities. “Airport should designate parking and pick up spaces,” he said. BMTC is also talking with star hotels in the City. He said that ticket fare has not been decided for these special buses. “However, we will consider the load carried by the passengers,” he added.

BMTC is also planning to introduce ‘check in specials’. “BMTC buses will carry the luggage from different parts of the City to the airport if private airlines make necessary arrangements and also provide security infrastructure. This will lessen the congestion at airport,” he said. Such service is provided in many countries but it is a new concept in India, he added.
