Special committees will be set up to decide on the financial resources for infrastructure upgradation in Greater Bangalore, organisational restructuring (including such issues as staff requirements and zonal jurisdictions), and to oversee the process of merger and delimitation.

It is time for the government to put on its thinking cap and plan for Bangalore ‘for the next 50 years’. For this purpose, the State government is setting up a series of committees to look into various aspects of the merger.

Special committees will be set up to decide on the financial resources for infrastructure upgradation in Greater Bangalore, organisational restructuring (including such issues as staff requirements and zonal jurisdictions), and to oversee the process of merger and delimitation. An expert panel will also be formed to review the management structure in the Bangalore Metropolitan region. A Cabinet sub-committee will work out the modalities of the merger. The committees will offer recommendations which will provide uniformity in infrastructure development with focussed investment in road and transportation network, storm water drains, water supply, underground drains and solid waste management. Apart from looking at ways of strengthening administrative capacity, the committees will work out means of upgrading the urban civic services.
