BANGALORE: The Bangalore Devlopment Authority (BDA) has identified possible sites for taking up the budget housing schemes for people from economically weaker sections.
These projects are likely to come up in Coles Park in Bangalore East and Srirampuram in West, a senior BDA official told this paper. The BDA is now in the process of finalising the site.
BDA Commissioner M K Shankarlinge Gowda said the Budget Housing Scheme will be built across 500 acres in different locations around the City. He, however, said that it would take some more time to identify the sites for the project.
“The Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) and the Master Plan-2015 will be ready by the year end. These reports will be an indication to the private builders and the BDA as to where possible development for residential purpose can take place,” he said.
After identifying the sites, the BDA will call for global tenders for building flats. “It will be a joint venture project. No developing body will be favoured in the tender process. The selection criteria for the private builders will be decided by the BDA,” he said.
The Bangalore Development Authority along with the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) has ventured into the ‘Budget Housing Scheme’ project to provide apartments to the economically weaker sections and lower income groups.
“The prices of the apartments will be on par with the KHB,” he added.
Apparently, the Bangalore Development Authority had bitter experiences in the past with apartments at Mico Layout and Nandini Layout.
The apartments will largely be for labourers in the vicinity of the places where they work, thus reducing their travel time and easing traffic congestion. This will also help them to attain a decent standard of living, sources said.
