The Karnataka government is planning to set up a knowledge city spread over 5,000 acres between the cities of Bangalore and Mysore, chief minister H D Kumaraswamy has said.Mr Kumaraswamy, who was addressing the Karnataka IT export awards for 2005-06 event here on Friday, said the government is planning to set up five sector-specific cities around Bangalore. One such township would be exclusively for the knowledge sector, he said.
The BMRDA is expected to come out with details regarding this project. He said these cities are expected to be integrated townships, obviating the need to commute from Bangalore city. Mr Kumaraswamy said that Infosys founder N R Narayana Murthy has already had a session with the government’s senior officials to firm up a roadmap for the state in the knowledge sector. The state government is also planning to set up the second biotech park near Bangalore city. ‘’My government has taken a decision to set up the biotech park near Bidadi,’’ the chief minister said. The annual BangaloreIT.in 2006 event, which is scheduled to begin on October 28, would also be the kick-off stage for celebrating ‘Suvarna Karnataka’ — the golden jubilee of the state’s formation. Bangalore, which hosts annual events for IT and biotech, is also expected to host a similar event for nanotechnology.
