Scarce amenities: residents take to the streets

Scarce amenities: residents take to the streets
The Times of India

Bangalore: Residents of Tannery Road went on a protest march from Tannery Road to Vidhana Soudha demanding better civic amenities. However their protest march was cut short when the police did not allow them to proceed on their designated route towards Vidhana Soudha.

The citizens were protesting the apathy of the corporator and utter lack of facilities including roads, potable water, unclean drains etc. Mid-way through their protest march the police blocked them at Frazer Town saying their dharna would disrupt traffic.

The route you people are taking is traffic-heavy, it will disrupt commuter movement, we cannot allow you to proceed, said police officials. The citizens tried protesting saying theirs was a peaceful protest, the police did not relent. Tannery Road belongs to ward 93 and has always been problem-ridden mainly because of the nature of the work that goes on in stretches, namely tanning.
