THE successful shortlisted allottees at the Arkavathi layout have a reason to cheer. The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) Board, which met on Wednesday, has decided to go ahead with the formation of remaining sites at the Arkavathi layout.

According to a senior BDA official, allotment letters will be issued to the shortlisted 10 to 12,000 allottees by June 15.

However, speaking to BBVVT T, BDA commissioner M K Shankarlinge Gowda refused to comment on the number of sites to be formed and by when the allotment letters would reach the allottees.

"We will form sites in those areas which have not been identified in a petition before the High Court. We are proceeding in compliance with the directions of the Division Bench," he added It may be recalled that the BDA had received 2,35,000 applications for 20,000 sites at the Arkavathi layout. The BDA, which faced legal hurdles right from the beginning with regard to formation of 20,000 sites at Arkavathi layout, had issued allotment letters to 1,810 shortlisted applicants under the first phase during January this year.

However, of the 2,750 acres of land acquired by the BDA, a majority of revenue site owners filed a petition seeking exclusion of lands from the acquisition proceedings in 748 acres of land. Following this, the Division Bench had directed the BDA to clear the objections after hearing each of them.

Now that the BDA has heard and cleared all the objections, those revenue site owners, who had got their sale deeds registered before the BDA issued the preliminary notification for acquisition of land for the formation of Arkavathi layout on Feb 3, 2003 will get a 30 x 40 site on a out of turn basis as per the BDA rate in addition to the compensation amount, a BDA official said.
