IN order to provide better facilities at the Sankey park, the Sankey Park Walkers Association (SPWA) is planning to chalk out programmes with the help of Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) and the government.

The recently established SPWA is making an all out effort to turn the park at Sankey tank into a colourful and beautiful place.

Apart from this, the association is also taking initiatives to promote community service.

As a first step, the association organised a one-day programme for children from the Rehabilitation and Education Centre for Rag pickers and the Swananda Ashram on Sunday. The programme was part of the World Environment Day celebrations.

Talking to BVT, B R Vijay Kumar of SPWA said, "Our association aims to create a healthy atmosphere. We have urged the government to expedite the ongoing work at the park and provide those taking a walk in the park all the facilities they require." "Our plan is to make this park a beautiful place. In order to develop it into a beautiful landscape, we are looking for sponsors," he added.

"At present, there is insufficient space for walking and performing exercises. There are no toilets and there is no separate play area for the children to play," Kumar said.

"Walkers need shelters, under which they can take rest. We also need a shelter for conducting yoga classes," he added.
