Ring Road turns robbery zone
The Times of India

Bangalore: Swift action by two constables landed three robbers in the police net minutes after they attacked a truck driver from Haryana and looted his valuables on the Ring Road near Hebbal late on Sunday night.

The policemen, alerted over wireless, chased the getaway tempo on a two-wheeler for over 100 metres before they intercepted it and arrested the trio.

Around 11.30 pm, truck driver Bhagwan (25) of Faridabad was in the vehicle which was parked by the Ring Road in Bhadrappa Layout.
The trio smashed the truck windshield and dragged Bhagwan out and assaulted him. They held him at knife-point and relieved him of Rs 2,700 cash before they sped away in the tempo. Bhagwan informed the Hebbal police following which roadblocks were set up in the area.

Constables Thammanna and Siddalinga Murthy of Sanjaynagar police noticed the vehicle, which, however, did not stop at the barricade. The registration number of the tempo, flashed over wireless, was different from the vehicle they spotted. The policemen intercepted the vehicle after a chase and arrested the trio, John, Kumar and Manjunath, all residents of Nagshettihalli.

In another robbery, Sundaresh, a government staffer, and his wife were on their way to their newly purchased residential site off the Ring Road in Jnanabharati, when they were attacked by three unidentified persons on Sunday afternoon.

The gang held the couple from Mandya at knife-point and robbed their gold valuables, the police said.

Another accident: Three persons were killed and another injured when a truck collided with their autorickshaw near Halenijgal on NH-4 on Monday night. The auto was going towards Dobbspet. Among the deceased are two women.

To avoid being robbed
The lonely Ring Road stretches are easy targets for robbers. Motorists stranded with their vehicle or unsuspecting persons relieving themselves by the roadside and even those walking on the stretch late at night, are the victims.
Avoid parking on an isolated or badly lit stretch of road. Do not use the Ring Road to canoodle. Couples often stop by the roadside to get cozy. Do not stop your vehicle when strangers seek a lift. Robbers often use women as decoy. Avoid stopping to relieve yourself by the roadside. Avoid displaying valuables and carrying huge amounts of cash while driving. Do not get involved in road rage fights. If vehicle breaks down and if you have to stop, inform a known person. Use hazard lights. Lock vehicle from inside till help arrives.
