BANGALORE: Parking of vehicles along the road near Dairy Circle has increased traffic congestion on the road. Lorries are parked in front of granite shops on both sides of the Bannerghatta Road, obstructing smooth flow of traffic.

The congestion persists for almost 2 km and there are jams almost every hour. Buses and two-wheelers are even forced to move on the wrong side as lorries block their way.

Adding to the problem, civic authorities have dug up one side of the road and from the past one month they have not repaired a blocked drain.

Motorists say that during peak hours in the morning and evening it is very difficult especially for four-wheeler riders to drive. The vehicles are also parked perpendicular to the road, thus blocking the traffic movement.

Traffic police said they are taking steps to solve the problem. Traders will have to think of an alternative for parking their lorries, said ACP Traffic (east) Ravindra Prasad.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic-east) M.A. Saleem on Monday held a meeting of the granite traders’ association.

‘‘Parking of vehicles along the road has been prohibited for four hours in the morning, from 7.30 am and four hours in the evening from 7.30 pm. That will ease traffic congestion,’’ he said.

The officer said traffic has been moving fast on the road after the new fly-over was built, but on that particular stretch the congestion had increased.

He said a center median will be made to ensure smooth flow of two-way traffic. This will be ready in a couple of weeks, said Saleem.

Motorists also complain that there are no street lights on that stretch.
