Several organisations have planned to take out rallies through important roads in the City, protesting against the hike in fuel prices on Tuesday.

Roads to be avoided

Sheshadri Road, KG Road, JC Road, Hudson Circle, Nrupathunga Road, Mysore Bank Circle, KR Circle, Basaweshwar Circle, Palace Road, Town Hall and surrounding roads.

In order to prevent traffic jams in the City and ensure smooth vehicular movement, police have deployed additional personnel for managing the situation.

Deployment

Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic east) MA Saleem said that additional traffic policemen are being deployed at all junctions in the Central Business District. The City police have deployed additional forces, such as KSRP, to provide increased security and ensure that the protests are held peacefully. At least five organisations will be holding protests against the hike in petrol and diesel prices on Tuesday.

The Samajawadi party led by state unit president S Bangarappa would take out a rally from Town Hall at 11 am. The Communist Party of India and other left parties will be commencing their rally from Mysore Bank Circle at 12.30 pm.

The Karnataka Pradesh Badvara Shakthi Samithi would hold a protest against the hike, in font of Mahatma Gandhi statue from 10 am.

Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangha would hold a procession through major roads in the city.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners’ and Agents’ Association would participate in the one-day nationwide strike against hike in fuel prices. The lorries will be off the roads on Tuesday.

S Venugopal, a spokesperson of the Federation said that the transportation of essential commodities like milk and LPG have been exempted from the bundh call.
