NICE sets deadline

NICE sets deadline
VIJAY TIMES NEWS

Going on the offensive, Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Ltd, the executors of the BMIC corridor project, on Monday issued an ultimatum to State government to implement the Supreme Court and High Court orders " in letter and spirit" within one week or face legal action.

In a 27-page letter along with copies of the apex and High court rulings and the directions on the BMIC issue, NICE Managing Director Ashok Kheny said if the government did not comply with the orders, they would take "appropriate steps." He said the project being executed under "public interest" will bring tremendous benefit to the State and its people. But any delay would only serve the private interests of a few landholders.

Kheny asserted that there was no question of excess land being acquired, as the claim had been finally scotched by both the courts. Therefore, nothing was left to be debated.

Any further debate could only amount to defeating public interest.

He said several statements had been made by several people from the government or having influence over it, which virtually showed wilful disobedience of the judgments of the courts. Some of the statements were attributed to the Chief Minister, which was disappointing.

Such conduct was clearly not conducive in a democratic set-up, he said.
