No VIP convoys, no political speeches, no ‘Z’ category security cover — the inauguration of the first stretch of the peripheral ring road of BMIC was a low-key affair, but it did see a few well-known faces.

Infosys Human Resource Head Mohandas Pai said he had come to “cheer for Ashok”. “This ring road, when completed, will come as a blessing for the people of Hosur Road and Peenya, the two major industrial hubs that are presently reeling under poor infrastructure,” Mr Pai said.

‘Stick to SC verdict’

Responding to the controversy regarding ‘excess land’, Mr Pai maintained that “the sanctity of the contract should be maintained”.

He said the project should be implemented by NICE, and the Government should not interfere, nor go against the Supreme Court’s verdict.

“The recent development is giving confusing signals to investors interested in Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects. This should not happen,” Mr Pai added.

Meanwhile, Bharat Forge Chairman Baba Kalyani, also the Chairman of NICE, said the latest controversy has been “demoralising”. “In the US, the only subject both Democrats and Republicans agree upon are infrastructure projects. In Karnataka, the opposite seems to be happening,” Mr Kalyani said.

Only two politicians —Congressmen D K Shivakumar and Narendra Babu - attended the inauguration.
