Ground work on for Bill to take over BMIC

Ground work on for Bill to take over BMIC

Bangalore: Notwithstanding the aggressive denial by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and his deputy B S Yediyurappa of the reported move to take over the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project, sources in the secretariat and JDS party confirmed that preparations were on to bring a Bill in this regard in the next session of State legislature.

Both the Chief Minister and the Deputy CM denying the media reports on the fissures between BJP and JDS ministers at the cabinet meeting held on Sunday said on Monday that "the issue did not come up for discussion at the meeting. There is no such proposal to take over BMIC project and the reports that have appeared in this connection are just media creation." But sources in the Law department had a different version of the story. A senior official speaking to Vijay Times confirmed that the Public Works Department had sought its opinion on bringing a Bill empowering the government to take over private projects involving utilisation of lands in excess of 1,000 acres in urban, semi-urban and fertile agricultural areas.

Incidentally, BMIC is the only project in private sector in the State qualifying for a takeover if such Bill is passed by the legislature. The Bill, if all goes according to the plans, will be ready for introduction in the next session likely to be convened by the end of this month itself.

The Law department had also been instructed to examine all the court judgments relating to cases to avoid any harsh indictment by the courts later, as was done by the SC in the BMIC case itself recently.

4 It has been asked to study all court verdicts on this issue

4 Deve Gowda seems to be firm on preventing takeover of excess land for the project
