The day you pay lip-service to the environment

City gears up for green mission

Bangalore: The city is all set to celebrate World Environment Day on Monday.

The KSPCB and Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development, will conduct a programme at Jawahar Bal Bhavan, where filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli, cartoonist Ponappa, environmentalist Suresh Heblikar and artist Chandrashekar will participate. It will mark the release of documentary films and books on environment, apart from the launch of a hazardous waste management unit.

The Bharat Scouts and Guides will organise a march from Vidhana Soudha to Bal Bhavan. The Centre for Environment Education will conduct a programme at the Swamy Vivekananda Composite Junior College in Mallur, Kolar.

‘Plant More Trees’ is the theme for YMCA task group on ecology and environment, where minister for planning Ramachandra Gowda will distribute saplings to students from St Joseph’s Indian High School.

Educational institutions are also doing their bit. PES College of Pharmacy is organising a lecture on ‘Environment management system’, while Presidency College of Education faculty will speak on ‘Environmental protection.’

Acharya College of Education will hold a workshop on environmental education, while the University of Agricultural Sciences has invited chief conservator of forests P Dilip Kumar for a talk.

Corporates too are chipping in. Sasken Technologies had organised a Prakruthi mela on Friday. Ness Technologies will launch their programme ‘Go Green Bangalore — Million Seed Balls’ campaign at 12 noon.
