BANGALORE: The city received unexpected showers on Tuesday afternoon. For a week, many weren’t venturing out because of the sweltering heat. To them, rain was definitely welcome.
The met office told this paper that the showers were caused by excess mositure collected from the Bay of Bengal.
‘‘It was due to the phenomenon called ‘circulation’ that resulted in rain on Tuesday. The city’s temperature was above normal the past week. If we take a 40-year average, it has to be 33 degree C. But it was abnormally high and stood at 37 degrees. As a result of hot air mixing with cold air, there was cloud formation and therefore it poured down for 30 minutes,’’ an official said.
This will not affect the cropping pattern as it is not the harvest season. Officials said summer crops would not be affected.
Meanwhile rain was followed by strong winds and it brought down a large tree in Vijaynagar’s Chandra Layout. Luckily no one was caught under it. But power shutdown was experienced in Rajajinagar, Basveshvaranagara and Vijaynagar. Sources also said that the rain was heavy in the south western regions of the city. Of course, Bangaloreans loved the cool evening.
