Chief Minister H D Kumaaraswamy conducted an inspection of 29th Main, BTM Layout II Stage and 24th Main, Puttenahalli on Tuesday morning, following which he promised harried residents that the roads will be brought to order within specified timeframes.

Mr Kumaaraswamy announced that the work on 29th Main, BTM Layout and some roads around Jayadeva flyover, will be taken up on Wednesday and will be completed by May-end, with an investment of Rs 3.5 crore.

Meanwhile, the work on 24th Main, Puttenahalli, will be taken up in the form of packages at a cost of Rs 2.9 crore. He set a deadline of 90 days.

“I received complaints from residents of BTM Layout that their roads are in a mess. So I decided to make a personal inspection. I have visited Puttenahalli twice, but I am not happy with the works. Priority must be given to improving these roads,” Mr Kumaaraswamy said.

Following an inspection of Puttenahalli and Madiwala lakes, the Chief Minister said he was dissatisfied with the development work done by Lake Development Authority, and proposed to the BMP and BDA to take over lake upgradation in their respective areas.

Encroachment issue

Meanwhile, in response to a question regarding encroachment on Puttenahalli lake, Kumaaraswamy said a survey has been conducted and over 600 structures have been identified for demolition around Raja Kaluve at Puttenahalli. However, he said that revenue sites will not be demolished if they do not come in the way of development.

Instead, he said the Government will regularise such properties.

Mr Kumaaraswamy said the government will not bow down to political pressures while demolishing properties, but “we cannot be merciless. We will have to take a humanitarian approach to address the problem.”

He added that land will be acquired around the Puttenahalli lake to create a proper drainage system. “We have warned the concerned officials that last year’s flooding should not be repeated this monsoon,” Kumaaraswamy revealed.
