Bangalore: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday made it clear that the government was contemplating a mono rail project also for the City .

Briefing reporters on the initiatives of the BMRDA, he said mono rail is needed as part of a mass transport system interlinked with metro rail. The BMTC too should gear up to meet the needs of commuters, he added.

Cheaper sites

With a view to helping lowincome groups, the government has directed the BDA to give 20 x 30 sites at a cheaper rate, the Chief Minister added.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FK CCI), has welcomed the Union Cabinet clearance on April 27 for the much delayed Bangalore Metro Rail Project.

FK CCI President, S Babu said the final clearance by the Central government will go a long way in easing the traffic congestion in the city .

"Even though the Bangalore Metro network was first proposed in 1982, the project got delayed because of various reasons," he said. He hoped the project will be completed as per schedule by the year 2011, which will result in a reliable, safe, energy efficient and nonpolluting rail-based mass transit system for the city .
