More rain likely in the City

Sweating it out in the scorching hot sun? Don’t worry. The Meteorology department has predicted some rain showers over the next two to three days over Bangalore, south interior and central parts of the State.

While soaring temperatures are common during summer months, the highest temperature during this summer season in the City was reached on Monday when the reading hit 37 degrees. All one could see and feel that day was the heat radiating from everywhere, along polluted roads.

According to Dr A L Koppar, the Met department Director, there has been an increase in the threshold limit for thunderstorm activities over the last 10 to 15 years for various reasons. “Earlier the threshold limit for thunderstorm activities to begin was around 35.5 degrees. Now it has shifted to 37 degrees,” he said.

The sunny conditions around noon followed by a short spell of rain creates a circulation condition which is favourable for more rain, he said. As such, thunder showers can be expected in the evening or late in the night across the City and a few other parts of the State over the next few days, he added.

Raichur has recorded the maximum temperature this season at 42 degrees.
