The BMP officials rushed to clear water logging which took place due to dumping of construction material waste in a open drain in Ward 55.
The late-summer downpour on Tuesday evening took Bangaloreans by surprise, signalling a respite from the heat which had been beating down on the City. the city recieved a modest amount of rainfall of 16.1mm of rainfall on Tuesday evening.
However, the welcome showers also brought back the familiar rain-driven chaos in certain pockets of the City. The showers uprooted over six trees — in Koramangala, near Wilson Garden, Indiranagar 2nd Main, Divyashree Chambers, Infantry Road and Kantheerva Stadium. There were reports of water-logging in low-lying areas of Pottery Town, Cox Town and Ejipura.
The BMP officials ru-shed to clear water logging which took place due to dumping of construction material waste in a open drain in Ward 55. Parts of MG Road, Airport Road, and Mallya Road also reported water logging for short period after the rainfall. Traffic was thrown out of gear in many areas across the City.
According to Met officials, the heat and humidity will come down considerably in the coming days, while the moisture content in the atmosphere is set for a rise. They also predicted more thunderstorms in the days to come and said showers could occur within a gap of 3-4 days.
‘’The thunderstorm was overdue. Usually, there are six or seven spells of thunderstorms, but there has been only one so far,’’ said Dr A L Koppar, Director ó Indian Meteorological Department, Bangalore.
Thunderstorms to continue: The thunderstorm was building up over the past many days, due to the heat and the moisture-laden upper crust clouds over Telangana and Tamil Nadu, he said. He added that the thunderstorms would continue over Bangalore urban and rural districts.
