BANGALORE: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday visited BTM Layout, Madiwala Tank Bund Road, Bannerghatta Road and the flyover near Jayadeva Hospital to get first-hand information about public works. What he saw shocked him.

He set deadlines to the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) and Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to complete works in progress.

‘‘I had received complaints at a Janata Darshan about bad conditions of BMT Layout 29th Main and Tank Bund Road. That is why I decided to visit the place,’’ the CM said.

After visiting BTM Layout and Madivala Tank Bund Road, the CM instructed officials to start work on the 2.5 km stretch from BTM Layout to Bannerghatta Road at once, that is from Wednesday. He also set a deadline of 60 days for completion of the work.

Earlier, residents of BTM Layout explained to the CM problems faced by them. ‘‘The Jayadeva flyover work is going on at a slow pace, and all vehicles, even heavy vehicles, are diverted to 29th Main. This is creating a problem for residents, especially children,’’ citizen Nirmala Masakeri informed the CM.

Kumaraswamy also inspected works on the flyover near Jayadeva Hospital and instructed officials to complete the work within 90 days.

He said a survey had been conducted to identify encroachments. ‘‘There are about 600 encroachments along the stormwater drain of Puttenahalli lake’’ he said.

He said encroachments on revenue sites which come in the way of development projects would be cleared. Other encroachments, he said, would be regularised on humanitarian grounds.
