The Bangalore W ater Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is intent on setting things right before the arrival of the monsoon.

T alking to B BV VT T, , BWSSB chief engineer (maintenance) Khandappanavar said that the board had chalked out certain plans to handle the situation during rains.

Routine work including desilting and cleaning of the sub-mains(sewer mains) and distribution of sewer lines had been taken up, he added.

"W e are concentrating on the old parts of the City like Akkipet, Chikpet, Balepet and Cottonpet. However , the task of desilting pipelines in these areas is done through the year ," he informed.

With this, we can ensure easy flow of sewage water and no blockage during this monsoon. W e are also identifying those points where water gets contaminated because of sewage water getting mixed with drinking water . Once such points are identified, we will work on solving the problem," he added.

Along with other agencies, the Lake Development Authority (LDA) is also pitching in to tackle rain-related problems. T alking to B BV VT T , B K Singh, chief executive officer , LDA, said," W e are trying to coordinate with other civic agencies and start work." "W e do not own all the lakes. They also come under different departments such as the BDA and the BCC. W e are just a monitoring and co-ordinating body ," he added.

"Our engineers are visiting the areas that were affected last monsoon and accordingly , works will be taken up in coordination with the other civic agencies," Singh said.
