Officials to make power point presentation on May 6

BANGALORE: The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) is making elaborate arrangements for the May 6 public consultations on the recently launched Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

The consultations, which would be held at 30 places simultaneously, would take off with a power point presentation by officials on the mission. The officials would then take peoples' suggestions on drawing up a City Development Strategic Plan (CDSP), which was a must for obtaining funds under the mission.

With several residents' welfare associations and even the mission's national technical adviser Ramesh Ramanathan pointing out that the BMP needs to first create awareness about the mission, BMP has decided to issue newspaper advertisements on the projects and hold ward-wise awareness campaigns.

After a discussion during the weekly heads of departments meeting on Wednesday, it is learnt that BMP Commissioner K. Jothiramalingam has assigned 30 top officials with the task of making the presentation on Saturday. These officials were given a crash course on the presentation later in the day, a senior official said.

"Details about the jurisdiction of the wards and the centre where the residents can participate in the consultations will be advertised. We have requested the residents' welfare associations to circulate the news among their members," the official said.

The mission is a Government of India venture formulated to encourage 63 cities from throughout the country to initiate steps to improve the service levels in a financially sustainable manner.
