Work on elevated highway to start soon: Muniyappa
VIJAY TIMES NEWS
Bangalore: ’Better late than never’. The adage fits well with the much-publicised 9.5 kmlong elevated express highway from Central Silk Board Circle to Electronics City in Bangalore.
The project, announced a year and half ago, was being put off for one reason or the other , leading to doubts of the highway ever coming through. But it is now all set to take off, with National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) awaiting Prime Minister Manmohan’s arrival for laying the foundation.
The Rs 450 crore elevated express highway is a joint venture of three companies to be taken up under ’build, operate and transfer’ (BOT) basis. Soil test has already begun.
Speaking to Vijay Times U nion Minister for National Highways K H Muniyappa said the four-lane elevated highway will have a six kmlong main carriage way on the ground level comprising three lanes on either side and two service roads, taking the total number of lanes to 14.
The company had been asked to complete the project in 30 months, he said.
On completion, the highway will reduce the traffic woes of the City substantially while saving a lot of travel time for the vehicle users. The NHAI has also planned to construct a six lane highway from Electronics City to T amil Nadu border at a cost of Rs 110 crore. It has already discussed with the police and prepared a plan for diversion of traffic from Hosur road to facilitate execution of the project, M uniyappa said.
