The unscheduled loadshedding of about 30 minutes would be implemented during peak hours throughout the state, including Bangalore, for the next couple of days to improve grid stability, sources in the KPTCL said.
Unscheduled loadshedding has been enforced in the state from Friday during peak hours following failure of several Central and state generating stations which has resulted in a shortage of 976 MW of power.
The unscheduled loadshedding of about 30 minutes would be implemented during peak hours throughout the state, including Bangalore, for the next couple of days to improve grid stability, sources in the KPTCL said.
The failure of major Central generating stations in the southern grid has plunged all the southern states, including Karnataka, into crisis, sources said.
Karnataka is facing a shortage of nearly 18 million units a day following the cumulative effect of failure of different generating stations due to technical reasons. The shortage is said to be 15 per cent of the total power consumption of the state.
According to an official, the loadshedding is likely to continue only for a couple of days as some of the generating stations are expected to resume generation by then. Efforts would be made to reduce the burden of loadshedding on Bangalore as it is the major revenue earning centre for the power utility, sources noted.
The State has lost about 350 MW due to failure with respect to Talcher-Kolar HVDC power line, 210 MW due to failure of III unit of Raichur Thermal Power Station, 50 MW due to problem in a generating station in Kaiga Nuclear Power Station, 160 MW from Neyveli Lignite Corporation, 135 MW due to stopping of generation by a unit at Nagjhari Power House due to upgradation works and another 50 MW due to problem with respect to a generating unit in Kadra station.

Why: Failure of Central power stations
