Helipads may ease traffic woes in city soon

Bangalore, April 6: The Bangalore city traffic police has suggested to the state government to construct 10 helipads in the city to facilitate the movement of VVIPs and foreign dignitaries without causing inconvenience to public.
This is one among many suggestions given by the traffic police to the state government to decongest traffic in the city. A comprehensive and meticulous blue print has been prepared by Mr Basavaraj Malagatti, DCP (traffic), West Division.
According to him, there has been an increase in the frequency of visits of foreign diplomats, international heads of corporate firms, besides the President and Prime Minister to the city owing to its pre-eminent position as a knowledge-capital and IT hub. "Whenever security and traffic clearances are provided to them, the traffic in most places goes haywire. The common man is inconvenienced. It is necessary to construct helipads to airlift these VVIPs to their respective destinations," Mr Malagatti says.
The places identified by the traffic police for construction of helipads are, Isro headquarters, BEL and HMT factory, BU’s Jnana Bharathi campus, ITPL, Electronics city, Airforce station at Yelahanka or Jalahalli, Raj Bhavan and near all five-star hotels. "When once the VVIPs alight in any of the helipads near their destination, it is easy for us to take him or her by road. This would not cause any inconvenience," Mr Malagatti said.
