Namma Metro to be BMRC logo

Bangalore: Gover nor T N Chatur vedi on Monday released the new official logo of th Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC).

Called ’Namma Metro’, the logo is derived from ’rangoli’, the auspicious and welcoming symbol used across the doorways of traditional Indian homes for centuries. Rooted in the Indian idiom, this modern rendition, traditional and innovative, yet contemporary conveys the modern, cosmopolitan attitude of the 21st century Bangalore.

The logo comprises a track looping seamlessly around a set of destinations. Explaining the logo’s features, Meeta Malhotra, Director, Ray Keshavan Designers, one among the panel of judges who selected the logo from over 400 entries, said the brand colours fo ’Namma Metro’ are leaf green and purple.

"Leaf green was selected symbolising the nature of the garden city and specifically convey to people that the Metro will be a pollution-free mass transpor t solution while purple represents modernity and technology .

The combination of both will be close to the hearts of all Bangaloreans and will be ’People’s Metro,’" she said. The Governor said that infrastr ucture projects like the Bangalore Metro require stupendous resources and long gestation periods.

"The project has had its share of ups and downs. It is but natural that we see such delays in a democratic set-up of our country ," he said. The original design, however submitted by a City-based student, Jayant Jain. Brand consultant Harish Bijoor and Venkat Vardan of DNA Networks were the other judges to select the logo.
