Bangalore: Governor T N Chaturvedi released the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited’s logo at Raj Bhavan on Monday evening.

“Mass transport is essential, but democracy is a costly process,’’ Chaturvedi said, explaining the delays in putting the mass public transport projects — be it Metro Rail or the ELRTS — on track. He also stressed on feeling a sense of pride in maintaining the BMRCL. “People should take care to avoid spitting and littering in and around the rail,’’ he said. “There may be more problems in setting up the Metro Rail, but we’re on the right path. We can always identify solutions.’’

A rangoli-like pattern, coloured in purple and green, is the logo for the newage mass public transport that the city has been yearning for. The logo was selected through a competition that received over 400 entries. It was selected by a panel of judges that comprised of Harish Bijoor, Venkat Vardhan and Sujata Keshavan.

The pattern, designed by Jayant Jain and his friend Mahendra, has green colour signifying the lush greens of Garden City while purple represents technology and modernity. “The seamless lines signify the smooth transport that the common man in Bangalore will have once the Metro Rail begins functioning,’’ said K N Shrivastava, managing director of BMRCL.
