BANGALORE: It rides like a dream, and Bangalore already has three of them connecting Majestic and Electronics City. BMTC will add three more Volvos to its fleet this week.
The three luxury buses will connect Majestic and ITPL from March 9. Each Volvo costs about Rs 74 lakh, as against an ordinary bus, which costs about Rs 10 lakh.
Route number 335 A will start from Kempegowda Bus Station and proceed via Corporation, Bangalore Club, Mayo Hall, Domlur, Manipal Hospital, HAL Main Gate, and Maratahalli to ITPL.
BMTC Managing Director Upendra Tripaty told this paper that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy would flag off the bus on March 9 at KBS.
“The fare has to be decided. The minimum fare will be the usual Rs 10,” Tripaty said.
According to BMTC Chief Traffic Manager (Operations) Dastagir Sheriff, the distance between Majestic and ITPL is about 28 km, whereas the distance between Majestic and Electronics City is just 23 km.
“The fare is expected to be more,” he added.
BMTC’s first Volvo was launched in January. Then transport minister Mallikarjuna Kharge had announced plans to buy 25 Volvo buses by March end and another 25 buses by June. With the ITPL connection, the number has gone up to six.
