Bangalore Mahanagara Palike is reportedly yet to clear the final estimate for repair of last year’s flood damaged roads works, while the unseasonal showers are already here, reports DHNS from Bangalore. On Monday, the fallout was all there to see in the muddy puddles and ditches that make up Silver Jubilee Park Road.

Flood repair works on SJP Road, Kaggadaspura Main Road, Shivajinagar Bus Stand area and Wind Tunnel Road, besides the fast track work on IT-BT Corridor are the projects the BMP entrusted to the Karnataka Land Army CorporationKLAC) just after the rains last year. But it has not yet approved the final estimate for these works, reliable sources said on Monday.

Reportedly, the only sum the BMP has released to KLAC is about Rs 8.4 crore for the fast track works on IT-BT corridor roads. The BMP is understood to be still ‘looking into’ the estimate of Rs 37 crore the KLAC has submitted for the fast track roads project. Sources noted that concreting the 700 mts stretch of SJP Road would cost about Rs 2.5 crore and KLAC has spent Rs 20 lakh on the preliminary works. But, BMP is yet to release any money.

Preliminary work was started on Kaggadaspura Main Road too, but halted due to non-release of funds. The repair cost of this road is estimated at Rs 6 crore.

BMP denies delay

When contacted, BMP Commissioner K Jothiramalingam denied any delay in release of funds. “We are releasing the funds as per the agreement we have signed with them (KLAC).”

Details on the cost structure were not forthcoming, but he noted that the pact is different from a memorandum of understanding. There is scope for enforcing action. The SJP Road work is expected to be completed by April end, he said.
