Ignored SJP Road sinks lower

Ignored SJP Road sinks lower
The TImes of India

Bangalore: SJP Road. One of the biggest casualties of last year’s rain havoc, is still as it was: Pathetic.

The reason: the agency that was supposed to have revamped the road, is still awaiting funds from the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike. The money, to the tune of Rs 2.5 crore, is apparently the bone of contention for work not taking off. The Karnataka Land Army Corporation, the agency supposed to have done the work, only had this to say: they are awaiting funds from the BMP to begin work.

The BMP, on the other hand, threw up its hands saying the central government had not released the funds. However, officials add that on Monday evening. a chunk of the funds had been released.

Amidst all this, traffic like 8,000 PCUs (passenger car units) blissfully pass through the road every day.
Since October last year, the road boasts of more and more potholes and is perennially waterlogged, thanks to underground pipe leakage.

Civic authorities contend that revamping the road is an Herculean task because the drain running underneath is over 100 years old and that tackling even a section of the road would mean changing the antiquated drainage system.
Interestingly, the roads running parallel to SJP Road have been declared pothole-free.
