Tree officer appointment in right direction

Appointment in right direction
New Indian Express

To preserve city’s green cover, Bangalore Mahanagara Pallike (BMP) has decided to appoint a Tree Officer, the first in the State.

The officer will prevent unauthorised tree-felling within city limits and grant permission where required, especially when trees pose danger to road users.

The appointment of Deputy Conservator of Forests Udapudi Krishna as Tree Officer is a right decision, as he is one of the finest officers in the Forest department.

He is competent and capable of doing justice to his post provided the department supports him and gives adequate funds for his work. His previous stint in the Irrigation department was laudable.

BMP should plant trees to replace all those that were felled. It should create tree parks in open spaces and not lawns and gardens.
