Radio show on green values launched

The Hindu

It is designed to `edutain' listeners

Bangalore: Alt Tech Foundation, a non-profit organisation that works for eco-sensitiveness and is dedicated to managing resources, has launched a radio show, Rainseed Radio, on green values in four cities — Bangalore, Mumbai, Mangalore and Mysore.

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, Rajesh Vorkady of Banglore-based I-Gen said the show "captures the worst that we do in destroying the planet for our own needs, as well as the best that we do in creating timeless classics." The hour-long show is packed with tips for people and will feature the finest in music from around the world, he said.

He also said that the content of the show has been designed to "edutain" — educate while entertaining. Through the show, the foundation will bring in experts who will give advice on water and energy management at homes and tips on how little things can make for quality living, he added.

Sameera, anchor, said the show has four sections: Voice of the Earth, Rainseed Champion, The Big Picture and The Green Minutes.

While Voice of the Earth will deal with the global climatic changes and will have reports from around the world, The Big Picture is about the sensitisation of urban citizens against unnecessarily wasting resources. The Green Minutes will feature tips that will help people save water and energy in urban households. Rainseed Champion is a touching tribute to environmentalists who have made a difference.

"A panel of experts appointed by the foundation will nominate champions every week out of the many unsung heroes who have promoted the cause of the environment," she said.

In its debut show on January 18, Salamarada Thimmakka was declared the Rainseed Champion.

Rainseed Radio will be on air at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays on All India Radio's Rainbow FM in Bangalore (101.3 MHz), at 10 a.m. on Sundays in Mangalore and at noon the same day in Mysore.
