BANGALORE: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday directed the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to take necessary steps to provide basic amenities in all its residential layouts.

Addressing top rung officers of the BDA here, the chief minister took exception to the lack of initiatives by the officials in providing amenities in the layouts developed as the site allottees were not able to start construction of houses in the absence of facilities like water, electricity and drainage.

While directing the officials to take up the work of providing amenities on a war footing, Kumaraswamy also suggested the earmarking of more sites measuring 20 X 30 ft for economically weaker sections and asked the BDA to explore the possibility of acquiring more land.

Reviewing the blueprint of the comprehensive development plan 2015, the chief minister directed the officials to take into consideration the future growth of population, infrastructure necessary for sustaining the growth and environmental issues.

He also reviewed the preliminary plan of action being drafted for the merger of seven city municipal councils with the BCC.
