Bye bye cold, summer is here

Bye bye cold, summer is here
The Times of India

Bangalore: The faint nip in the air has vanished and the sun has started beating down. With sultry days here again, it’s time to fold up the woollens and take out the light cottons.

Summer has announced its arrival and the sudden change in weather is forcing many to stay indoors, in the comfort of their airconditioned homes and offices. And confirming this is the Meteorological Department which says that winter is at its fag end. In the past few days the city has recorded temperatures of over 33 degrees C.

“Summer has set in and the temperature will vary anywhere over 30 degrees Celsius. Temperatures will also be high in March,’’ said a MET department official.

And if you thought Monday was hot, with a maximum temperature of 33.1 degrees Celsius, the mercury level was higher by a degree two days back. On February 17, 2005, the Met Department recorded a maximum temperature of 35.9 degrees Celsius.

Said media professional Lata Lakshmi: “The blazing sun leaves me exhausted. But it is fun too as I get to gorge on ice creams.’’
Summer’s also the time for water-borne diseases. Most common are gastroenteritis, typhoid and malaria. People who are exposed to the blazing sun for too long can be vulnerable to heat strokes, said Dr Sanjay B Gururaj.
