Come Friday, Lalbagh Botanical Gardens will beckon you with a riot of colourful flowers, fragrances and fruits at the Indian Republic Horticulture Show.

Announcing this at a press conference here, Horticulture Director Dr G K Vasanth Kumar said the show, organised by Mysore Horticulture Society at the Glass House and Dr M H Marigowda Hall till January 26, will display more than 300 varieties of flowers. Fruits like gooseberries (Amla), raspberries and Sapota would also be featured prominently at the show.

An added attraction is in the offing. According to Dr G K Vasanth Kumar, eco-friendly vehicles that would take visitors around the expansive Lalbagh gardens would be installed by February.

“The trial runs have already begun. The trail will have five strategic stops. During the horticulture show, two battery-operated vehicles would also be seen on the campus,” he said. The entry fee is Rs 15 (adults) and Rs 5 (kids below 12 years) and the timings are 8 am to 7.30 pm. On January 25, the entry is free for children between 8 am and 12 noon. Contact 26576781.
